Jewellery Insurance Cover

Lucy Said:

Does homeowners insurance cover jewelry of any resident of the home or just family members?

We Answered:

You need to either add your BF to your policy (if allowed) or to have him purchase separate insurance for his ring. As well, understand that most homeowner insurance policies have limits on what they will pay for lost or stolen jewelry, unless you declare the ring as an additional item (which will cost you more in premiums). To declare such jewelry will require a certified appraisal from a certified jewelry appraiser.

Does anyone know an insurer that will cover a high value jewellery in the UK not on house insurance? Thanks?

We Answered:

Sure, Royal Sunalliance, or Lloyds of London . . . but you'll have a high deductible, and pay through the nose.

Which Insurance Broker Is Best For Single Items Of Jewellery

We Answered:

Well, you'll get cash based on the WHOLESALE value of what your insurer can replace it for, not based on your appraisal or receipt.

But you'll have to buy the coverage through a local agent, anyway. Your BEST bet, is finding another homeowners carrier that will write it the way you want it. Any "jewelry only" policy is going to have more restrictive coverage (oops I lost it won't be covered), and cost a WAY lot more.

Todd Said:

What insurance policy covers broken items in a car accident such as eye glasses, watches and jewellery?

We Answered:

Your automobile policy will not cover your personal property. You would have to file a claim against your homeowners/renters policy. Depending on the language in your policy - coverage may apply. The deductible will apply, however, most homeowners or renters policies are replacement cost on personal property.

An easy rule of thumb to determine if auto policy or homeowners policy - if you were to take the car and turn it upside down and shake it - if it falls out - then you file against your homeowners policy. Pocket book- falls out, (homeowners), in dash cd player does not (auto)

If you have medical payments coverage - it may help with the glasses if they are prescription glasses and were on her face at the time they were damaged (IE- air bag deployed and broke them while she was wearing them). This is kind of iffy - it really depends on the language in your policy. You can ask the adjuster handling your claim about this.

If another person hit you and is at fault for the accident - they will pay the depreciated value of the items. They will not pay replacement cost.

Does Jewelry Insurance Cover lost Jewelry?

We Answered:

What KIND of insurance? There's no such thing as "Jewelry insurance" by that name.

If you insured it separately on your homeowners policy, then typically, "oops I lost it" is covered. However, also typically, an insurance company won't insure an item valued at $300. The value is too low.

If it's not insured separately, "oops I lost it" is not covered under the standard HO3 homeowners or HO4 renters policy.

Luis Said:

How much jewelry is covered under a homeowners insurance policy?

We Answered:

This varies from policy to policy. Be sure to check with your insurance agent. Ours only covered $500 worth so we had to get a "rider" to cover my jewelry.

Heather Said:

does insurance for jewelry cover LOST or STOLEN jewelry?

We Answered:

It depends on what insurance you got. If it was through the store, it probably doesnt cover lost items. I have insurance through the store on my engagement ring, and while it covers a lost diamond, it won't cover a lost ring. I have seperate insurance for the ring that covers lost or stolen.

Check your policy, or call the store.
