Penny Said:

I hit a car but have no insurance. I live in Melbourne Australia. What can I do?

We Answered:

You can turn yourself in to the local police for driving without insurance, or you can pay the $1225. His insurance won't do much for you, they are going to be the people reporting you to the police.

Charles Said:

how do i find car insurance for my 55 Chevy Bel Air, in Australia?

We Answered:

Firstly what state are you in, for instance in WA, insurance and rego is alot cheaper and easier to get than in NSW. Secondly how often are you going to drive the car. If its just going to be a Sunday car, join a car club and put post vintage plates on the car, and that drops the insurance alot.

Left hand drive will be tricky if you are in NSW, the RTA will make you jump through all sorts of hoops for your pick slip, WA, SA, NT QLD, much easier, just a bit of paper work with the Roads Authority (which you need to get insurance)

As for insurance companies, none of them provide on line quotes for post vintage cars as the agreed valves can be varied. Shannon's is a easy to get insurance for Chev's and Caddy's etc, but they are very expensive compared to the other insurance companies. All the major insurer's will insure a Bel Air it is just a matter of ringing around to get the quotes

Car Insurance Trick Question (Australia Answers only please)?

We Answered:

Hahah laughed so hard at this. Sounds exactly like something I would do. I suggest you read the small print and check the website, and then go for it. But it would be hilarious if you crashed and went in for cover and they showed you a sheet saying "we do not pay for damages in this period" ahah.

Shannon Said:

car insurance, Australia - NSW?

We Answered:

Wow, That 1st answer was total ****, did they not read "Australia NSW"

If your car was insured for an agreed value of 6k then that is what the insurer should pay you. However this only applies if it is your fault and your policy is required to pay out.
If another party is at fault its at their insurers discretion as to how they determine the value of the vehicle.

If the insurance was based on "agreed market value" then the insurance company places a value based on local sales and repossessions. There is still a little room for negotiation with the insurance company but you aren't likely to get more than $5500.

There is no way possible that you can get any money out of the person who is at fault. No matter how big of a ******** they may be.

You could take the case to court but your bare minimum expenses would be around 8k- so not worth it. Problem is the insurers know this so try and rip you off.

If you can get $5500 for your vehicle you will be doing pretty well. If you feel that the resolution isn't fair try contacting department of fair trading for advice
