No. When you have an existing policy, your rate class doesn't change during that entire policy year. You have to wait until the policy renews.

It's worth it, though, to call your agent and ask them to cancel and rewrite the policy right now, to take advantage of a 50% rate decrease.

The reason that info is requested is because the rating is based on city state zip for fire protection classes which establish the rates charged. By entering a city, st, & zip (even if ficticious) and an amount of coverage (personal contents) should get you a rate. Also, age is a factor for discounts; as is the number of units (if an apartment bldg or a single-family rental home). Confused? That's why people consult agents.Good Luck. They don't talk about it because they want to be seen as 'for the American people', and if the truth about health care reform (read screw over all the legal citizens/ working citizens to pay for deadbeats with exceptionally poor lifestyles) they know they would be crucified come election time.

All I know is it's not my responsibility to pay for anyone else's problems. If you live in a flood plain, carry flood insurance, if you live on the beach, pay for your own sand to be put back on it so your home doesn't get destroyed. If you have a family, pay for health insurance. If you can't afford it retrain for a new job, or get a nother job and live within your means. If you have too many people in your family to do that, it's your own fault, you made the choice to have a large family, now pay for it. It's that simple.

I knew health care insurance would be a problem at 18 so I went into the military to protect my families future. I could have made other choices, but my family was important to me. I will still have to pay for that benefit, even after 20 years of dedication, but the cost wil be reduced to a manageable level. Not everyone is willing to made the hard choices, or sacrifice to make sure they are covered but that's exactly what's required of them.
I love the thumbs down as well. Those probably came from the same folks that would have illegal immigrants covered as well as legal citizens just because they have medical needs. Again, not this countries issue since they are criminals here ilegally and don't rate any coverage.

This sounds like a term policy.

You guessed it. IF you don't die with in the term (when the policy expires, when you hit a certain age), the company just keeps the premiums. Think of it like renting a house. You have no equity. If and when you move out, you just hand back the keys and thank the landlord for the tempory coverage. You get no cash back.

If you are looking at providing coverage that does not expire look at Whole Life insurance. It will be more expensive, but at least you're getting something that you will have a better chance of using. Obviously depends on what you need it for though. They are different products for different purposes, there is no one size fits all approach.
