Keep in mind, it's subject to your homeowners deductible. Also keep in mind, it "counts" against you as a claim. It might not be a good IDEA to file this claim, but it SHOULD be covered.

Each state will have variances and there are at least four different policy forms that most people refer to as "home insurance" in most states.

However, I will agree with the previous answer stating flooding (including water damage from rising waters, or mudslides caused by excessive rain) are NEVER covered under home policies (with the exception of a few mobile home policies where it can be added in some states.)

Wind damage is covered by even the most basic policy form in the state of Virginia; however, that may not be true in all states. (For instance, in parts of South Carolina, a separate policy must be purchased from the state high-risk pool. My agency writes in 10 states -- these are just examples of how they can vary.)

You're much better off to call your agent and ask these questions. Ask them to mail you a copy of the policy details with the applicable parts high-lighted.
