You'll find out that maternity coverage is basically a "prepayment plan", when it comes to individual policies. That's because only the people who want to use it, buy it.

So basically, whatever health insurance you get, you'll pay that premium, PLUS an extra $300 a month or so, and you can't get pregnant for the first year, or it won't cover that pregnancy.

Pregnancy cannot be considered pre-existing on group coverage. Just make sure that you take the COBRA to cover anything that may happen until you and your husband are covered on the new plan.

When I applied with my son I thought I was not eligible but it turns out if you are pregnant they can not reject you. especially if your insurance does not cover it.

Normally no. You will have to be married for them to do it, because then it is considered "family". They will most likely require a marriage certificate also. If you guys don't make alot of money and aren't ready to get married, she could try to get on Medicaid or another type of government program. Good Luck!

**Once the baby is born, you should be able to add him/her to your insurance, just not your girlfriend.

If you are looking to self-purchased insurance, then you are probably out of luck, but if you are using insurance through your employer PREGNANCY IS NOT A PRE-EXISTING CONDITION. People are so incredibly misinformed about that. However, in your case, since you are "shopping" for insurance, then you probably won't be able to get coverage. Can she get medicaid?
