But we called an insurance agent anyway, and they found us a company that offered a slightly better package, for 1/3 less than Geico, and didn't care about the one speeding ticket like Geico did.

So, to find the best insurance company for your situation, I would call a regular insurance agent, and see what they can do for you. They network with many different companies, and can help you find the best rate. And you can still get quotes from Geico and Progressive.

Here's one thing we learned about the beauty of having an insurance agent. If your payment's late through no fault of your own, your agent can play the mediator, explain it to the insurance company, and get it worked out. We had this happen when our bank accidentally cancelled our debit cards before sending our new ones, and we didn't lose our insurance because our agent was there to help. An agent will also automatically search for the best rate for you every time you hit the end of your six-month policy, and if they find a better deal, they'll let you know. And they can do things for you like make a deal on homeowner's or renter's policies to cover your stuff, or foreign insurance if you decide to take your car out of the country. Kind of nice perks there.

£3000 is not outrageous, slightly higher than norm but you do not say what car you are trying to insure. Expect a minimum of £2500.
