with regards to maternity, most plans have a 6-12 month waiting period before maternity is covered. the reason is they don't want you get a maternity plan 1 month before becoming pregnant keeping it for 1 year and then switching to a cheaper plan. the insurance company would lose money every time if they allowed this. you have the pay into the system for a while.

maternity plans cost more than plans without maternity. do the math and see if its really needed. go to www.healthcarebluebook.com to get an idea of what a pregnancy costs. then factor in the discounted rate for have even a cheap health insurance plan. compare the additional cost you'll pay for the 1st year before those benefits are active.

You will be hard pressed to find "cheap health" insurance when you already have health insurance, but you can try CHP, Child health Care Plus, it is available for people based on their income and need. Also, if you are going by the handbook your husband got from insurance company don't. Call them and ask. You may also be able to find a place that will give you a discount based on your ability to pay. Call the county office where you live and ask them what you options have (after you confirm with current insurance company).

I would go ahead and start looking for different insurance now. Some insurances limit the doctors you can go to and some consider pregnancy a preexisting condition and wont cover you till after the baby is born. You need to look into these things so you aren't left without coverage!
