Health Insurance To Cover Pregnancy

Kim Said:

Is there a health insurance that will cover pregnancy? Please help!?

We Answered:

Group insurance policies cannot consider pregnancy to be a preexisting condition. That doesn't mean that pregnancy, except complications of pregnancy, would be covered. However, the vast majority of group plans cover pregnancy and maternity.

David Said:

Did your health insurance cover your pregnancy? (Not Medicaid)?

We Answered:

Most insurance companies do not consider pregnancy a preexisting condition. I worked at a Dr's office for 6 years and one my responsibilities was insurance and billing.

I had Blue Cross Blue Shield and lost my insurance during my third pregnancy bc I went from full time to part time. So I got on my husband's insurance (which was also BCBS, but a different type..each company has it's own contract and rules regarding coverage and co-pays or deductibles.) through his work and they covered everything from then to the delivery. These are questions you should ask when shopping around for insurance. So that you know ahead of time.

Daryl Said:

Where can I get individual health insurance that will cover Pregnancy?

We Answered:

Many individual health insurance policies will cover maternity.

The catch is that you of course cannot become pregnant and then try and purchase the maternity coverage and most companies have a 12 month wait until the benefits kick in.
