Health Insurance That Covers Pre Existing Conditions

Shane Said:

Does anyone know where I can get Health Insurance for that covers pre-existing conditions?

We Answered:

There are at least four options available to you:

1) The TX Health Insurance Risk Pool: this is a "high risk pool" established by TX to cover uninsurable Texans. Many states have similar high risk pools. Here's a link:

2) The Texas Childrens Health Insurance Plan: this is NOT Medical Assistance (Medicaid); it's for working families that do not have insurance covering their children.

3) If you family's income is very low, your child may be enrolled in the Texas Medical Assistance program.

4) As one answerer pointed out, you may be able to cover your child through your husband's employer plan, if there is one and if it covers dependents (not all do).

You may also want to contact the Texas Department of Insurance to see if there are any other options: (800)252-3439.

I hope this helps.

Hello,

You might check to see what type of "Comprehensive Health Insurance Plan (CHIP)" program is available in the state where you live. These programs are described as being for the states' "high-risk pool". You may find that your state program will allow individual health insurance policies to be sold to people who might otherwise be “uninsurable” because of a chronic illness. Premiums may be high, and a pre-existing condition period may apply. The American Diabetes Association site has great information on this (see the link below):

Don't confuse them with "insurance," but there are also now discount programs available for as little as $50/ month that can save up to 50% off doctors, 80% off ancillary medical care (lab, xray, etc), and have a hospital advocacy program. I would recommend this type of relief for someone who simply cannot afford insurance, or for someone such as yourself who may obtain insurance with a very high deductible, or waiting period. The discount plan could save you a lot during the deductible (or waiting) period before the insurance kicks in.

If you would like more information on that type of "back up" let me know ... oh they generally do cover all previously existing medical issues without waiting period.

Hope this helps

Is there a Health Insurance that covers Pre-Existing Condition in California?

We Answered:

You can have a pre-existing condition and still get medical insurance(group or individual). When shopping around make known what your condition is. Generally, they will not cover anything related to the condition within the first six months of the policy; however, I have seen some goes as high as a year. You want to bring this up to them up front so you can do one of two things: 1) confirm they will cover it or not and thereby have the security in knowing you are covered; and 2) determine an accurate quote for the cost of the insurance coverage (as you should always shop around for providers).
Hope this helps.
