Get Cover Insurance

Marilyn Said:

Have bought a static caravan to site on our own land, but cannot get insurance cover?

We Answered:

OK, this is bizarre. By Caravan, do you mean "camper"? You've bought a camper, you want to rent it out?

You can buy the coverage for the camper itself, through Foremost or American Century - go to a local, independent agent, and ask if they'll do that. But the LAND it's on, will need a general liability policy, which will run you $750, minimum premium, IF there's no pool or lake.

Start with the agent that writes your house insurance, and if they can't do it, you'll have to move your business to an agent that CAN do it all - including the "good stuff", your house and car insurance. If you call an agent, and ask them to write the junk - the rental camper and a stand alone CGL policy, they'll tell you no - too much hassle, not enough commission to cover the time investment.

Jeffery Said:

If I get diagnosed with cancer and THEN get married, does my husbands insurance have to cover me?

We Answered:

If husband's insurance is a GROUP policy, they have to take you.

It doesn't matter if the diagnosis is before or immediately after the wedding - cancer doesn't happen overnight, and if the SYMPTOMS are there, it's a preexisting condition.

Your real question is, is a preexisting condition covered, when you get added to your husband's group insurance policy. And the answer is, it depends on whether or not you have prior coverage. If you don't have prior coverage, then his plan is allowed to exclude coverage for preexisting conditions for 12 - 18 months (varies by state). If you have prior coverage, like you were on your parents' policy, or had your own, then they cannot exclude coverage for your preexisting condition.
