Does Insurance Cover Std Testing

Jeff Said:

STD tests covered by insurance??????

We Answered:

As far as I know, yes, insurance will cover these tests during your physical or during a pelvic exam. They even usually cover HPV (via Pap Smear). The only one they won't cover is herpes, unless you do it with a prenatal screen.

Then again, you don't have to rely on insurance for these tests (except for Hep B) if you decide to visit a public health clinic. PH clinics are usually free of charge.

Felicia Said:

can i get an std test from my regular doctor and will my insurance cover it?

We Answered:

Yes and sometimes it does, sometimes it does not. It will depend on your specific insurance plan.

Olga Said:

STD tests run by the red cross, if u test positive how long till u are informed?

We Answered:

Dear concerned;

It depends on where the lab is located. It should not take longer than 2 weeks.

If you are clean, you are clean. You should be more worried about the health status of your next mate than yourself.

hivtest.org they provide free std testing, with HSV1 and HSV2 blood tests excluded

Best wishes

Victor Said:

Where can I get a free STD test in the Boston area?

We Answered:

Here is a PDF list of STD clinics from the Massachusetts Health Dept. website http://www.mass.gov/Eeohhs2/docs/dph/cdc… You can find clinics near you from that list.

When you get tested, you have to ask for a full panel AND specify the diseases you want to test for. I'm guessing you're not sure which those are, so here goes:

HIV (blood test or cheek swab)
Chlamydia and gonorrhea (urine test or urethral swab)
Syphilis (blood test)
Herpes (blood test -- not all clinics offer this, though)

And if you want to clean up your act, remember to ALWAYS use a condom during sex (even with a long-term partner) and limit the number or partners you have. Ideally that'd be ZERO, but one consistent partner is ok.

If you don't want to go to a free or low-cost clinic, you can see your primary care phyiscian, and those tests should be covered by insurance.

Sherry Said:

Does anyone know in chicago area PlannedParenthood how much pap/std testing runs?

We Answered:

if there is a current problem ur worried about check with ur student health office at the college. Also check in ur area for free health clinics or sliding scale fee depending on ur income. If something really happening just go to any emergency room they cannot refuse to treat u regardless of ability to pay.

Marian Said:

Std testing questions

We Answered:

1. Any doctor can do STD testing, some just prefer not to. I get mine done with my gynecological exam, and then again in 6 months (I'm paranoid).

2. Testing is usually done to me by both swabbing and blood testing.

3. Blood testing will discover if you have the antibodies against the diseases lick HIV, herpes, HPV, gonorrhea, chlamydia and syphilis. Swabbing can discover gonorrhea, chlamydia, as well as a bacterial or yeast infection.

4. STD testing is normally covered once per year with a gynecological exam, but if you would like it more frequently, you can go to a planned parenthood, or you local health department for discounted or free testings.

Don't worry about being long winded...it's good that you want to know.

Andrew Said:

Will an STD test show up on my insurance bill?

We Answered:

It will typically show up as lab services or something similar. Most insurance statements are very vague, because they don't want to be questioned about the charges. However, the exam sheet you get from the doctor may show an std screen.

If your parents question it, just say it was routine testing for someone your age during a physical.

Discuss It!
