Does Insurance Cover Ivf

Greg Said:

does aetna insurance cover ivf?

We Answered:

You need to call them or read the coverage limitations. Aetna has different policies and coverages. What Aetna coverage one person might have in Florida wouldn't be the same as California. And there are different coverages/policies within the same state. I know they do have IVF coverage but I don't know where those coverages are (or what companies offer them to they employees). Some insurances also will only cover the medicines but not the medical treatment or vise versa and some will only do 1 ivf whereas some will do 3. Also some states require fertility coverage to be offered. inciid.org use to have a list of employers who offered infertility coverage as well as a list of companies who covered IVF. I don't know if they still have those list but I know they still have the state mandates regarding infertility coverage.
See the sources I listed.

Glen Said:

How much does it cost for ivf if you have insurance?

We Answered:

The meds alone range from $1-5K depending on what your doctor uses for an IVF cycle. You should call your insurance provider though to verify what's covered and what's not. When I called mine I found out all the drugs would be covered as long as they were ordered through my insurance provider's pharmacy. One other financial gottcha that I didn't think about was all the blood work and ultrasounds that you will have during the IVF cycle. These things were not always 100% covered by my insurance and ended up costing about $1000 out of pocket.

A lot of insurances do cover it. Check with your plan administrator or call the number on the back of your card and speak to an insurance customer service rep.
