Caravan Insurance Cover

Diane Said:

Home buildings insurance-what am I entilted to?

We Answered:

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear of your predicament following the flooding in the Summer.

It is hard to give any sound advice without knowing exactly what your policy cover includes. On either buildings or contents insurance there will usually be a cause covering alternative accommodation. This could be either a flat rate fee although its is far more likely to be a percentage of your buildings or contents sum insured, usually upto 20%.

You need to contact the insurer's claims dept and find out what you are entitled to. If what they offer does not satisfy you, make a formal complaint writing to the company. If this still not satisy you, you will then be able to contact the Ombudsman (the details should be in your policy booklet) who will make a decision that is binding on your insurer.

I know its hard to understand at this time, but unprecedented events over the Summer have made it incredibly diffcult for UK insurers but I know first hand that they will try to do everything in their power to hellp you.

owning a caravan.,/c ?

We Answered:

Council will more than likely make you move
the caravan as they will say it causes an obstruction.
They will say road cleaning cannot be done
and other excuses,plus vandalism will
take place, also people will complain to your
council.

Question about multiple car insurance policies?

We Answered:

I Have worked in the insurance industry for years, now Im not sure how the laws are governed there, as I am in Canada, but here how it works is if you are being rated and paying on one policy you dont need to be rated and paying on another, this is technically double dinging you (if youre dad had 2 cars you arent paying to use them both you are just rated on the highest "rated" vehicle to collect proper premium) as long as you have the registered owners permission to use to vehicle you are fine. Same as if you want to borrow a friends car, you dont need to be on their insurance just have permission to use the vehicle.

Trying to get insurance for static caravan on own land?

We Answered:

No, home insurance isn't designed for caravan parks or multi-unit dwellings, it's just not.

Incidentally, have you checked with your local council on the legality of the plan? Many areas will not allow that sort of thing.
