Yes as you have an insurable interest in the car you are the one who needs to insure it. Many companies will charge you more but Norwich union Direct, Ford insure, Asda and Barclays dont. Check the post office too, I think they might do it without charging more on increasing any xs

However, go get an independent estimate, first.
If the damage is less than or slightly more than your deductible under comprehensive, then it won't be worth filing because your premiums may go up because of the incident.
