Car Insurance Cover Abroad

Melvin Said:

Friends car broke into, my stuff stolen, who is supposed to file insurance claim?

We Answered:

the car belongs to him so he has to contact his insurance agent. just hope when they find him your stuff will be there.

Justin Said:

is it legal to use my british car in england if i ensured it abroad?

We Answered:

Hello

Has the car been re-registered to the foreign country?
If so you can drive here on foreign plates for Max 1 year then it has to be registered and then all the above.
If it still has the English Reg and is registered here then it must be MOT'd and Taxed. Or you are Illegal. And will get picked up by police if caught on one of their automated systems. As far as the insurance goes it would flag as uninsured so carry the Insurance Certificate with you.

Stella Said:

[car insurance] I'm doing study abroad in the U.S, and sometimes want to borrow a car from my host family.

We Answered:

Since you don't OWN a car, you would not even be able to get car insurance, however, if the car you drive is your host families vehicle, they can specifically NAME you to their policy and you would have coverage under that existing policy. Their premium may or may not go up depending on their company and your driving history (if you have had any tickets or accidents). I am assuming that you would then pay the difference which may be very little or nothing at all.

Pearl Said:

Does anybody know of UK car insurance that will also give you comprehensive cover when renting a car abroad?

We Answered:

Most companies will but its an extra premium.

Ask your own insurer about the Green Card.

Nina Said:

Will my Car Rental include insurance?

We Answered:

Check with your insurance company to see if they cover you if you leave the country. You may be required to buy the insurance program through Avis.
