Comprehensive cover includes lots of extra cover people don't think about - things like vandalism, storm damage, windscreen/glass breakage, and the main one - the huge cost of getting you towed off a road/motorway when you are in an accident which is either your fault, or the person who caused the accident leaves the scene. If you had to have your car towed off a motorway to a safe place or garage, could you afford to pay for that as well as the repair cost ? The garage also charges storage fees which comprehensive cover includes.

Always consider these things before opting for third party fire & theft. One of my clients had a slate fall off a school roof (he works at the school) onto his car, causing £500 of damage, and his wife (also a teacher at the same school) had a wheelie bin blown towards her in a high wind, causing £1,000 of damage to her car. Neither of these incidents could be blamed on the school so their insurer had to pay up.

I think you may be able to get it at 10 months, but not sure about 6.
It would be best to ask the individual company eg. the AA

It is most likely to be Green Flag as they do most of the inclusive breakdown cover deals with insurers.
Green Flag are generally pretty good as in most circumstances they use a local garage to rescue you whihc means they are often quick to get to you - i work with them alot on the motorways.
In any case the breakdown agent they use will probably use a list of nearby garages to get to you as this keeps costs down compared to AA, RAC who pay for their own patrols.

Yes, it's called put some money in the bank, and save it in case the car breaks

As this is UK answers you won't have heard of the first answers companies. Shop around for insurance, but a cheap deal sometimes means problems getting money when making a claim. AA breakdown cover is good as it covers you personally,and therefore ANY vehicle you're travelling in, not just the one specific car.
