Car Hire Excess Insurance Cover

Claire Said:

Does anyone offer car rental insurance in the UK for car's hired in the UK?

We Answered:

oh dear, try Zurich. There pretty good, and you don't have to pay anything up front. In other words, get the policy, have your holiday, then cancel the policy. It will cost 15.00 to cancel. Good Luck.

Tyler Said:

can i be sued for car hire? ridiculous..?

We Answered:

Turn this over to your insurance company. They will handle it for you. They will only pay for reasonable rental expenses. You are not liable for the rest. Your insurance company should have set the expectation with the other party as to what is considered reasonable. Also, only in some states is the at fault insurance responsible for rental insurance for the claimant.

Robert Said:

What is the different between "Collision Damage Waiver" and "Liability Damage Waiver" for renting a motorhome?

We Answered:

Say you run the thing off the road, and damage someone's fence. CDW will pay the damage to the car, LDW pays for the fence. The "excess bond" is what we call deductible in the US...you would only be covered if the damage exceeds these amounts. The age difference just reflects the risk of someone of that age driving.

As the previous poster said, you may be covered either under your own automobile insurance policy, or by your credit card company (if you put the charges on your card). Those alternatives are worth investigating before you sign. If you aren't a resident of NZ, you may be better off getting as much insurance as is available, even if it's redundant. Dealing with these problems if you live elsewhere can be a load of trouble.

Monica Said:

What happends if hiring a car in the USA and you do not have a car back home?

We Answered:

Most rentals only want to see a credit card and license. And most of them are self insured, and insurance comes with the rental. If you want collision coverage that would cover anything you did that was your fault, you would have to accept the additional insurance they offer.

hired a car which they told me i was insured then when i had acident they told me they dont insure under 18s?

We Answered:

hmm sounds like they know that they have no legal leg to stand on. By law a minor can not be held responsible for any contract.

Get legal help, they should not have even allowed you to lease the vehicles. That is why they tried to get you to pay for it, they broke the law.

You can not be held responsible for repayment!

We Answered:

I would not pay them a dime. Let them sue you and then you can countersue them ( sue them back).

What state or country are you in? You need to file complaints with your city hall or the Department of Insurance.
