You will not get the premiums back when you cancel the life policy. Unless you cancel the policy within the first 10 days, then you will get premiums back. But after that, its not possible.

If you had this life policy for a long time (more than 3 years), and it builds cash value, you may get some of this cash value back. Surrender charges will apply.

Can set you up with a good policy that will pay out after 4 weeks, 13 weeks or 26 weeks. Normally a S/E person will take out the 4 weeks policy and the policy will pay out up to one year, two years, or the rest of the term of the policy depending on what company and how much you wish to spend.

Life insurance refers to an event which may occur where as life assurance refers to an event which will occur.

You have car insurance in case you have an accident not because you will have an accident.

Life assurance should theoretically only be referred to when looking at whole of life cover and not life cover for a specified term (commonly known as term assurance).

The spelling.
Traditionally insurance was when you made provision against something happening, like your ship sinking. You could insure your ship, your buildings or your life. Then along came the Equitable Life Insurance Company and came up with what we would now call a with profits whole life policy. This paid out whenever you die so they called it assurance. These days the words are interchangeable.
