If you don't keep your us insurance then your liscense will be suspended and when you come back you could get arrested..the best thing to do is to check with the finance company that finances your car for there requirements(if you still pay on it) chances are that it would be best to keep your american policy. also check with your current insurer because they may not cover you if you are out of the country

Most insurance companies have policies like that. Many motorcyclists have it also when they live in areas where it snows during the winter. If it is collectable, I would suggest keeping insurance that covers damage from other sources though. Your insurance on the garage will not cover damages to the vehicle if it catches fire or is wind damaged.

Most companies will cover you automatically without rating and charging you while you have a permit only. Once you are licensed, you should be added. Multiples make it difficult, because it is more expensive. but license means needing to be added to policy or excluded from policy (the latter bars you from having any coverage if you drive and means you intend NEVER to drive).
Probably the wisest thing is to set up a separate policy for the three of you and your older car.
Check with an independent agent for help. There are companies out there that right policies of this kind for teenagers.

They'll probably cover it. If there is any rust or further damage from waiting so long, they will not cover that, just the original damage.

progressive is the best ,but it will only cover up to a amount for each person on your policy and usually you have to pay a deductable to get your own car fixed if you were at fault ,if the other driver wants more and tryes to sue you ,your insurance company will pay for your lawyer, and asks for all the medical bills ,so 95 percent of the time when they sue the other driver doesnt win but they do get their car fixed ,and yes covers you ,your passengers and the others just make sure its full coverage .

if you do it online its cheaper ,u can choose your deducable and your coverage u want for u and/or thee other driver.

The state sets the limit on how long a policy can be written for.

But, every time you'd start a new policy, you need a new application, new deposit. PITB. What you WANT to do, is have ONE policy, and on May 1st, transfer the coverage from your Ford to your Kia; on November 1st, transfer the coverage back from the Kia to the Ford. I've had LOTS of clients with the summer car/winter car bit, and it's VERY Common.

Two things to think about: you'll have to turn the tags in, or otherwise suspend them with the RMV, if you don't want to have all sorts of troubles, when you take the insurance off the car. If they can both have private passanger tags, it's about $15 to transfer the plate from one car to the other, when you transfer the insurance from one car to the other, so THAT'S super easy, and isn't a problem - but you can't transfer between a truck and a car, so that incurs costs, buying new plates twice a year.

Also, unless both vehicles are paid off, the lender will have a cow if you take the coverage off the cars. They need to be fully covered, until they are fully paid off.
