It depends on what kind of coverage you currently have and whether it is a replacement or additional vehicle.

In Texas you do have thirty days to notify your insurer of a "Replacement Vehicle". The key term here being "Replacement Vehicle".

Your Texas auto insurance policy will transfer automatically with the existing coverage limits that you already have on the vehicle being replaced or traded in. If you have Full coverage, then that transfers to the new vehicle. If you have only liability, then only that liability will transfer without coverage for the car being driven.

If this is an "Additional Vehicle" purchase, then it will not be automatically covered for anything at all until it has been added to your policy.

That's odd. Your US car insurance should cover you for long as you are in Canada. As long as you are not staying in Canada, you should be good to go. Consider finding a different insurance company.

Generally no. In some cases buying a new car to replace a car will allow your current insurance to cover the replacement car until you can notify the insurance. But if you got a second, rather than replacement car, no.

if you quit the first of the month. your insurance goes by the month not by the day. so you have till the end of the month.
the only way to extend it beyond that is with a cobra waiver.

It's not 30, it's 63. As long as the lapse is less than 63 days, there won't be a problem.
