Perhaps, but only one company would cover the damage. I don't rent cars often, and I have my own car insurance that covers rentals, but I always get the rental companies insurance. If there is a problem, no rate increase is placed on my own policy.

thats tricky. say you wait 2 months and say the scratch is brand new and you need it fixed, they send an adjuster out and he determines the scrape to be "old". . . you risk big trouble even if the company doesnt pay out for it. . be careful!

i'd weigh the benefits. is it a scratch that REALLYY bothers you? would it be cheaper just to pay it out of pocket instead of paying your comp. deductible so it doesnt affect your insurace?

You should have insurance all the time.... Normally everytime you buy a new car you always get some moron who will run into it... this has happened to me sooooooooooo many times. with the dealership it depends if you will be taking out a loan, if so then normally you must have insurance for a year.
normally the CTP covers the driver plus passengers and the insurance covers the car
