every life insurance company has a child policy (list of ins cos can be got from irda website also).

child policy are of 2 types :
1) endowment type: you get a lumpsum at maturity
2) moneyback type: you get money spread over 4/5 years.

these can also be of 2 types - traditional & unit linked. If you do not mind taking calculated risks go for unit linked as they are most likely to outperform traditional policies

If you are looking at traditional policies, do look at LIC's Jeevan Tarang, Tata aig's mahalife, hdfc std life & bajaj allianz's child policies.

If you are looking at Unit linked, do look at Icici Pru' Smartkid & HDFC's Young star.

Another fact worth mentioning here is that there are 2 policies (jeevan tarang & mahalife) in which you pay for first 12/15 years and then, you get a guaranteed amount every year after that for the rest of your life in addition to the traditional bonuses. please consult your agent/ broker or e-mail me.
