How do you know what jobs to apply for?

We Answered:

Ruth Said:

Will my employer know that I've sold an insurance policy outside of my employment with them?

We Answered:

It takes two shakes of a lamb's tail to figure out who you are appointed with and when your effective date is. Your employer usually has access to your credit report if they suspect anything. I would suggest you write it through your employer or quit, write the business through a better contract, and then look for other employment. The last thing you want to happen is to be terminated for sneaking around behind their back. Then you might not be able to find another job.

What do I have to do to change Brokers, in NJ?

We Answered:

Your new broker should notify and help change most've this. Your license will stay the same, and you should be in the same association in the same area, but you will probably have to notify both of your change in firm/broker in charge. The same goes for Trend [that's the MLS, right?], and your E&O insurance company. Some brokers/companies will cover your E&O insurance as part of the "desk fee", so you may be able to drop that, and in our area [NC], the broker-in-charge at the new office is the one who makes most of these notifications.

forming a group for health insurance. Not employees, but an association of gardeners.?

We Answered:

Pac Advantage made that a lot harder for us to set up nowdays, because of how badly that went for them. Most of the associations out there pre-date AB1672, which means all of them pre-date the ruin of Pac Advantage.

Essentially, what you have to do is call an insurance carrier, preferably one with whom you and your agency has an extremely good relationship, and talk to them about negotiations.

Because you are looking at an Association Plan, not a regular group, you are not looking at something that the insurance companies HAVE to do, and as a result, it is unlikely they'll want to buy into that. Association plans are CERTAINLY not protected under AB1672, so you'll basically be negotiating with the carrier, to create a new plan, from scratch.

You'll want to have a few hundred people interested in this plan to make it look attractive to the carrier, but you can always start small and renegotiate later.

Good luck!
