Insurance Agent Salary

Penny Said:

What is the Avg Salary for a Licensed Insurance Agent?

We Answered:

Most companies today do not pay agents a salary. Most are strictly on a commission only basis. That means you can make as much or a little as you are willing to work to achieve. The average for most new commission sales agents in our area is around 30 to 40,000 per year. Some make a lot more, but some make a lot less.

What's a normal starting salary for a insurance agent who does'nt receive commission??

We Answered:

There is no normal starting salary. You will need to search for jobs in your area and find out what they are paying. You should start with the big companies like Allstate and State Farm they will have regional offices that assist their agents in finding support staff. You can also check the interenet based job boards like monster.com

Salary of an insurance agent?

We Answered:

Only 2 out of 10 agents survive the first year. This is mainly due to the fact that recruiters at the career agencies will hire just about anybody. I've seen take a personality profile that says they are not well suited for sales and sure enough if they are willing they get hire and usually wash out in a few months.

What the average yearly salary of a typical insurance agent??

We Answered:

This is a very tough question to answer... Lots of variables. It depends on the # of policies you write (new business), and renewals ( # of policy in force), different companies pay different commisions, different states premiums are higher than others. Also depends if you are the agent or a producing agent for some one else.. I started an agency from scratch, and the first few years I put most of the $ i made back into the business. I tell others looking to get into the business not to expect to a big profit until the 3-5th year. After the business the is established you should be making at least 50k a year at the very least.. however with most sales jobs the sky is the limit... Unlimited earning potential. The idea is a snow ball effect over the years as you write new policies adding to your existing book of business, because you will continue to get renewal commission all of your policies.. the larger the book of business is the more you are making. I know agent that make 50k a year and very few that make up to 2 mill a year.

I'm interested in becoming an life insurance agent, what the average salary they make?

We Answered:

Earnings for insurance agents and brokers who are just starting out typically range from $25,000 to $40,000 a year. Part of this comes in the form of commissions. The proportion of their pay that comes from commission varies from firm to firm. Some firms stress commissions, others stress salary.

As agents and brokers build their client base their incomes increase. Successful agents and brokers with 2 to 3 years of experience can earn between $35,000 and $60,000 a year. Agents and brokers with 3 or more years of experience may earn between $50,000 and $100,000 a year. Some may earn substantially more, depending on commissions.

Derrick Said:

does life insurance agent get a base salary beside the commission they earned when they make a sale?

We Answered:

In most cases, no. That is definitely the case for MetLife. They used to offer a training stipend subject to production, but I don't believe they do anymore. They are very forthright in explaining the compensation package.

What's the starting salary of a Farmers Insurance agent?

We Answered:

Zero salary. It's straight commission - you don't sell, you don't get paid. 95% of new agents wash out the first year. Maybe 1 in 1,000 will make six figures the first year. The average, with 60 - 80 hour workweeks, of agents that DON'T wash out, is around $50,000.

The thing is, in time - five, ten, twenty years, you could EASILY be pulling in six figures, without much effort. It's very, very, very hard to establish your book of business in the first place. Once you've got a couple decades under your belt, it's pretty cushy going.
