That's quite the screwed up situation you have there. You asked for coverage to be effective April '08 but they sent you a policy with an effective date of November '08. While they may have a verbal agreement that you requested insurance coverage be placed, they technically breached the contract by not making the policy effective when you requested. the problem is at this point there is a policy issued with your name on it effective November '08, and if they do not receive payment for it they will cancel the policy for non-payment, which may screw up your ability to be insured with a good company in the future. I would cancel the current policy now, pay for the time on risk, and seek insurance elsewhere as your current broker/agent seems to be utterly incompetent and dishonest.
As for the building limit you can barely build a garage for $32,000, never mind a house. Your policy does not insure the market value, it insures the cost to rebuild your house (including cost of debris removal) with one of the same size and quality.

Real Estate is governed by State law. California is one of the most incompetent states in the country when it comes to rediculous laws. I'm sure you've heard of the 7th Circus Court as well as all of the horrible things your state does. In Illinois you can sell your own home though have to disclose on any and all advertising that you are a licensed real estate salesperson or broker depending on which license you hold. For California you would have to read the law that I'm sure is on their website and find out if you can sell your own home. Logic and California Laws don't necessarily match.

In most situations like this, EVERY person he fired, has a lawsuit against him!
It is illegal to discriminate based on ethnic background.
Now, if he would have said, I'm firing all of you because I only want my family to work in my businesses, it would be one thing... because that is not legal, because that would basically be family owned and operated business, however firing and not allowing anyone but asians to work, is discrimination!
