Become An Insurance Broker

Sonia Said:

How do become an insurance broker?

We Answered:

Look in the Sunday Paper (my sister lives in Neosho - trust me - there are PLENTY of ads!)

Just starting out - it's best to start with a Life Company that will help you get licensed (and they'll give you PLENTY of help with that) sometimes they even pay for the licensing!
Someone like Aflac, Bankers Life & Casualty, United Insurance Company of America
I've worked for them all...and they gave me great basic sales training and leads...and you have NO start-up cost out of your pocket!

If you feel you need little training & wanna make LOTS OF $$$ and could use leads to sell....
try National Agents Alliance - I was with them for the MOST years and made the MOST $ with them....you'll be considered a broker - they will set you up with the companies...BUT they lend little support in licensing or start-up costs- it's a do-it-yourself and you have to PAY for everything yourself...even leads...and there's little training except "read this & do it" - the conventions are GREAT & AMAZING TRAINING! But they are again - at your own expense & quite expensive!
www.naadavies.com is a great site to read about them and Stephen Davies and his family offers great advice (he considers his agents a family - but his father & brothers are also his agents!)

I'm no longer with National Agents Alliance for personal reasons - but they were the best way to become a broker - if you have available start-up cash of your own! (SO - no I'm getting no commission or $ for referring you)

How to become an insurance broker in Florida? How do I get signed up with diffrent companies?

We Answered:

Step 1 - take the course and pass the test to get license to sell whatever lines of insurance you are interested in. (search insurance schools for ideas)

Step 2: to get appointed as an agent of a specific company, usually go to their website and find a registration form. - or call the company you are interested in selling to get an application to you. Each company is different in their exact process to become appointed.

Katherine Said:

Can someone explain to me what licenses I need in order to become an insurance broker?

We Answered:

Go do a search for "your state" insurance department producer licensing.

What you need depends on what you are selling. There is one license for life & health, another for property/casualty, and if you get into securities & annuities, there are several licenses you need for those.

How long does it take to become an insurance broker in Canada (on average)?

We Answered:

Depends on how quickly you can get a job. There is no average amount of time. It could take you five minutes or three years. Unfortunately, it will depend on your ability to get an interview with a brokerage and convince them to hire you. The license will be a secondary issue but generally the brokerage will help you get that part done.

Good luck to you!
