I suggest you file a written complaint with your state's insurance commissioner's office. Attach photocopies of whatever documents you have (such as EOB's and the policy) and ask them to investigate. The commissioner's office will contact the insurer and demand it explain how it calculated the amounts paid; why it won't pay other claims; and why it hasn't made a decision on some of the claims it received. The process is free.

Due to privacy laws, they can't disclose your information to your uncle, whether or not he's a sheriff. And as a sheriff, he should KNOW that. So of COURSE they aren't going to respond to him!! But I'd bet they'd respond to YOU!!
