Roger Said:

what are the steps for starting an insurance agency?

We Answered:

1. get a license to sell insurance
2. get a company willing to let you sell their insurance

That's it.

In reality, it's much harder than that - and if you have no idea how to do it, you shouldn't be doing it.

Ricky Said:

How to get an Insurance Agency started?

We Answered:

At this point, I would recommend that you look into the trade associations for insurance. Many have student memberships that are inexpensive and give you access to all of their information and events. Also, find an agency or agent that could act as a mentor to you. Perhaps you could work for them as an intern (paid or unpaid) to learn the business.

Lee Said:

Anyone have any knowledge regarding starting an insurance agency?

We Answered:

If you are talking about being independent that is easy. Get producer contracts. You probably will have to go through a large agency. Get connected with those that will provide you with free training. To find the biggies, call the insurance companies and they will refer you to local agencies. Decide what products to target and then buy leads on the Internet and start calling and closing and writing apps.

Andy Said:

How difficult is it to start an insurance agency?

We Answered:

Actually, I've never lived in a state where it was a hard thing to do - you have to file the business like any other business, get a tax id number, like any other business. The biggest expense is E&O coverage, which will probably run you $5K a year to start. Then it's just liability coverage & wc for your employees.

You already have the carriers lined up - that's by FAR the hardest part of it, that, and oh yeah, SELLING enough to pay your overhead.
