Patrick Said:

Can someone explain the P45 total tax to me?

We Answered:

If you look at http://www.hmrc.gov.uk , and put "form P45" in search box, on the next screen you will find instructions to employers about completing new forms P45, which came into force on 6th April 2009. It says that part 7 should only be completed when an employee is on a cumulative code. Are you on an emergency (week 1) code number? If so, the tax figure should be on part 8. Employer may be confused about the new instructions.
You can always contact your tax office, and if necessary staff will take it up for you with ex-employer. NIC figure never goes on forms P45, because it is not operated on a cumulative basis.

Do you recommend using recruitment agencies? (LONDON)?

We Answered:

I think the problem with these agencies is that demand greatly outstrips supply. I would contact companies that appeal to you directly with your CV (or resume) and covering letter. Also you could check the jobs sections of the quality newspapers (The Times, the Guardian, the Evening Standard on certain days, etc.)

Temping and in need to renegotiate hourly rate with my Agency?

We Answered:

So the question really is: Why are they extending their contract? The logical answer is that you are valuable to them, have done a good job, and they want to keep you but are unclear if the volume of business can support a permanent role. So the balancing act you have to present is that it's less costly (training, time on task, less disruption of work flow, overall cost savings) to give you, at minimum, a cost of living adjustment and in return you would like to be considered for a permanent job in the future.

This is a conversation with your agency. What you should know is that the agency can reduce their margin and charge the employer the same for your services, while paying you more. And it sometimes makes sense for the agency to consider this, especially if they are trying to win new business with the company you are at. By them providing the company with an excellent product (you), they are positioning themselves as the vendor of choice.

Is Royal Consultant Agency/ Agency Central a registered UK recruitment agency?

We Answered:

I haver found a listing for them:

http://wck2.companieshouse.gov.uk/0fbd64…

I use this site if i am buying things on line to check if companies are legititmate or not, but i would be a bit sceptical about 40% pay on the travel arrangements.

Do you have a legitimate job to go to? Post those details here or better still send them to my email and i can check that out.
