Insurance Employment Agency

Melanie Said:

Are the CSA legally entitled to be given details of my partner's income details?

We Answered:

The CSA can only legally obtain income details of the absent parent. As your partner is not the parent of the child then NO they cannot ask for details of her income. Just tell them she does not work anyway and you are the sole income earner.

My husband had dealings with the CSA a couple of years ago. He has a child who at the time was 15 from a relationship that ended just after she was born and he had been denied access. We were informed that no payment would ever be required as the child had been taken off the mother and was in the care of the grandmother. A few years later we had a letter demanding payment. We were never even informed that the child was back in the care of her mother yet they wanted money. He was having to pay £70 a week which was stopped straight out of his wages. We have an 8 year old son together and they couldnt touch £45 a week of his wages which was allowed for him. So he was entitled to less than his absent daughter even though our son lives with us.

The whole system is a complete and utter mess. I was asked for my details and I basically told them to go and take a run and jump as the child had nothing to do with me.

My husband changed jobs specifically to get away from the massive payments. Luckily they have never caught up with us again. Mind you the child is 16 now so unless she stays in full time education my husband wont have to pay anymore.

The CSA dont care how much heartache and poverty they cause to the families. The annoying part for us was that the mother the paymetns were going to is a heroin addict so basically our money was getting shot up her bloody arms.

I really hope you get all this sorted out and remember, DONT give out your partners details

When working as a temp not thru agency is it better to employ an Umbrella Company or Self Employed?

We Answered:

Just to elaborate on fengirl's answer (and she is right):

If you got introduced to your employer via an agency then they would have to pay agency fees no matter what. The fees shuold be discussed between your employer and the agency only.

If not, they are in control of your contract of employment and, as such, you can not be deemed self-employed. You can choose to be paid through an Umbrella Company (very unusual unless you work on contracts within certain industries [typically skilled work like engineering, construction and IT]), however you are responsible to pay all your tax and national insurance on any earnings.
