Insurance issue... how do I resolve this?

We Answered:

So, first you call the hospital, and you need to say, hey, BCBS is telling us they paid this in full, and that I don't owe anything, what's going on? And listen to what they say.

Then, you have to call BCBS, and say, hey, the hospital is insisting that they didn't get paid, can you please send me a copy of the EOB statement, PROVING that you paid this, because it's going to collections.

Then, you send the EOB statement TO the collections people, disputing the debt.

You DON'T know it's active . . . because you haven't called YOURSELF. You're relying on mom and dad, or the state, or whatever, to check this for you.

It's NOT GOOD ENOUGH, until you have that Explanation of Benefits form, that PROVES that BCBS PAID these bills. Then, WHEN you get sued, that paper is PROOF that you don't owe the money.

You need to go line by line, down EACH CHARGE that the hospital billed you for, and make sure the insurance paid every single one of them.

If you continue to ignore it (yes, continue, because it doesn't go to collections for about six months, so you've NOT handled the issue for about six months at least), they will take you to court and win, and garnish your wages. You don't work? NO problem. They'll happily wait until after you graduate and get a job, even if it's five years from now, and THEN garnish your wages - plus interest and court costs.

Gwendolyn Said:

What would insurance cost me yearly/monthly/quarterly for starting this business?

We Answered:

First of all, new businesses can't get installment payments on insurance. YOu'll have to pay up front, for the year. Even after you're NOT a new business, you'll still be a SEASONAL business, and will have to pay up front, for the year.

Let's talk coverage.

You're NOT going to get an insurance company willing to give you coverage, if someone cracks up the jet ski. You won't get "on the water" collision coverage.

Liability coverage, is probably going to run darned close to $4,000 PER SKI. See, those waivers - which you DO need to have them sign - won't hold up in court. Ultimately, the owner of the ski - you - will be financially responsible for all damage the ski does to another vehicle.

Although you *might* be able to get property damage liability coverage, it will have a hefty deductible - like $5,000 per collision. You pay the first $5K of all damages done by your jet ski.

You'll also need workers comp for any employees.

Bottom line - you'll need to budget at least $10,000 to start, for insurance - and you'll have to pay cash for the jet skis.

How can it be so hard to get a job in Orlando, Florida????

We Answered:

The Hartford, Hewitt Associates, Aetna and AIG are all in the area and are all hiring right now. Not sure what type of insurance or HR you are looking for. I find it's almost always easier in Orlando to have a referral no matter how tight your resume and experience is. There might be a way of networking with someone either on monster.com or maybe craigslist or something where you can find someone who will refer you to a company?

Charlie Said:

I need an answer or two about obtaining an insurance license (Property & Casualty) in the state of Florida.?

We Answered:

Can't help you out with the first, sorry.

Agents are paid on a commission basis. Salaried positions are paid by the owner-agent. Typically, once they've got a big enough book to require someone to service it - that frees them up to sell more.

Allstate pays NOTHING towards salaries or office overhead. NO Allstate agents are independent - they're all captive agents.
