Insurance Agencies In Florida

Loretta Said:

I will be having a son in oct and i myself and covered under my mothers insurance until I turn 19 but he isnt?

We Answered:

Call your county's human service department/welfare.
They should be able to assist you with an application for your baby.
I really don't know how your state works but in PA kids without insurance are eligible for assistance.
I had my daughter at 19 and had the same issue.
So call the county!

GOOD LUCK & CONGRATS!

Casey Said:

if a homeowners insurance company in pinellas county florida is reputable?

We Answered:

Due to the property insurance market in Florida, there have been a flurry of brand new companies starting up. American Traditions is one of them. They are brand new, which is why you're not hearing anything about them.

They are NOT rated by AM Best (NR-5), and their reinsurance is Lloyds of London.

If you have ANY other choice, I would go with the other choice - even if it costs more. It does NO GOOD at all to buy homeowners insurance, if the big hurricane comes through, and they don't have enough money to pay your claims.

I would go with Citizens, before an unrated carrier.

OH, they do say they're rated through Demotech. Every new Florida carrier is rated through Demotech. Although I haven't looked at the financials for THIS company, the Demotech A rated companies I HAVE looked at, don't have enough reserves to pay off even 5% of their policyholders - so I don't give much credibility to Demotech ratings.

Kathy Said:

Can an employee of an insurance agency (who is unlicensed) do marketing for an agent?

We Answered:

Yes, you can as long as you aren't giving specific advice or pre-qualifying them with regular application questions. You can be like a scout for the agent by rounding up people that fit the demographics of what he's looking for and forwarding their info to the agent.

That being said, every state and province in North America governs themselves. It would be best to contact the Florida state department of insurance to dicuss their local bylaws regarding this.

Jason Said:

My insurance agent is an idiot?

We Answered:

What recourse do you have - not much, living in FL you're lucky to have any insurance company that's not Citizens. Shopping around is not much of an option.
Can you get your money back? Yes, you'll be refunded any unearned premium, minus and fees your insurer can charge (and has been approved by state DOI) .
Is there a consumer agency that can help you? You can complain to the agents bosses or home office, the state DOI, and the BBB.
What will likely happen? Nothing, these people are not going to get your policy reinstated prior to July 11th cancel.
Your best bet in the short term is to comply with their underwriting request. Get the work done prior to the date and get pictures taken prior to the 11th and get the pictures to the agent. After the policy is reinstated, look at transferring your auto/home business to a different agent within the same company. In the future if other options come available in FL, transfer to a different company. In the meantime grin and bear it. Good luck.

Insurance Policy Was Cancelled and insurance company wont pay back?

We Answered:

People will suggest different things but I would write them a recorded letter asking for the money and giving them 15 days to do so, specifying that failure to comply will result in you reporting them to your State's Insurance Department..
Keep a copy of the letter.
