I know a guy who sells Aflac and it is really difficult to sell right now because everything they offer is extra coverage and people are companies and individuals are really tightening their belts right now. I would think prudential would be the same way but PM offers health insurance which a lot of people treat as a basic necessity. If I were you the big thing I would be looking at is what type of residuals you get from policies. Basically if you sell a policy this year how much commission will you make on it next year and the years that follow. Some companies offer very little payment in existing business which means you never get to the point where you can slow down a little bit and have to sell every year like its your first year.

I have not had as much luck as you. I would like to say that I found a ceremonial hat made of the hollowed-out carcass of a peacock, but it would not be true.

I like going to garage sales because I am curious about how people live and what they value. It fascinates me to see people selling their half-empty bottles of shampoo and lotion. It is sad to see old widows aggressively pushing their lost husband's bright white and dangerously short tennis shorts.

In college, one of my friends happened to be walking somewhere at 6 AM and stopped by a garage sale that was just starting. He ended up with a 2 foot long empty mortar shell that looked like something out of World War 2 for $3. It made a fun party favor.

I had a garage sale a few years ago and some creepy old guy came by asking about women's clothing. He claimed that he had a mannequin at home that he like to dress up and sit on his couch to scare people when they came over. He had an unpleasant laugh while telling me. I believed parts of his story, and it succeeded in scaring me.

I am disappointed that I did not get to attend your garage sale. I hope it was a raging success. Also, to end with an immature answer to your ambiguous statement, I have never used my junk to earn cash.

Seriously, your best bet is to contact your local iiaa office, and run an ad in the monthly magazine. Go to the meetings, put the word out to all the agency owners you know that you're looking to buy. Most of these transactions happen via networking, just like everything else in the independent agent world.
