Independent Insurance Companies

Sergio Said:

How do you go about starting an independent insurance company???

We Answered:

I'm assuming you mean agency. Those laws are different in each state. Go to the website of the State's Department of Insurance to find out the rules in your state.

Jesse Said:

What companies hire independent producers for Insurance & Financial products (already licensed)?

We Answered:

I can't speak to the financial brokerage side, but for Life & Health you can typically get appointed directly with the carriers or with a general agent. There are no production requirements. You will have to pay your E&O. Talk to many local independent brokers/agencies in your area.

Charlotte Said:

What insurance compnay to take? Farmers or Safeco via independent insurance company?

We Answered:

I have always thought that the independent agent has a natural advantage because they are not just representing a single company. They can present other company's products.

Rick Said:

What steps need to be taken to be an Independent Insurance company. I have a Life and Health License.?

We Answered:

Contact your state DOI or COI. You will probably need to submit some paperwork so you can assign your commissions to your business entity. Once you get your corporate license, poof, you're done.

Good luck with the rest.

(USA) Insurance while renting a moving truck - do any independent companies sell it?

We Answered:

Not that I'm aware of. You must buy the insurance from the rental company; ordinary auto insurance does not extend to rented trucks. Nor does the insurance coverage provided by credit cards.

One very important thing to keep in mind: The insurance from the rental place does NOT cover the top of the truck. Ever! If you go under a low bridge or other overhang and strike it with the top of the truck you will be personally responsible for all damages. No insurance company covers the top of the truck's body.
