I can't understand Home Insurance stuff?

We Answered:

The 2 most important #s are the dwelling coverage - also called "A" coverage...
Make sure that's enough to REBUILD your house if it burns down
All the other coverages they went over are percentages of the dwelling amount - so they're set by the computer
Some companies like to "read thru" your coverages when you get a quote to make you feel that they're giving you MORE coverages than the other companies (gotta admit - State Farm does that too)

and the deductible...I know in NC there are 2 deductibles - we require a hurricane deductible this year because we are coastal counties
Don't be afraid of a high deductible because then you're less likely to put in small claims - which could cause a company to cancel you

How much does your home insurance go up with a German Shepherd?

We Answered:

Your homeowners insurance should not be affected because you own a German Shepherd. They are usually not on the "bad doggy" list. I am very familiar with the most conservative of insurance companies, and none of them have restrictions about German Shepherds. If you do own a notoriously aggressive breed (rottweiler, presa canario, staffordshire terrier or pit bull, or any old fido with a history of aggression or biting) your insurance company will cancel your policy, or just refuse to insure you. They don't mess around when it comes to exotic or aggresive animals. They flat out decline the submission.

Your homeowners rates may be high for a variety of reasons--
~the value of your home
~the condition of your home
~your proximity to the ocean or the coast
~your proximity to a notorious hail belt, tornado zone, fault line or wind zone
~your credit (some insurance companies weight credit scoring heavily into the premium rating.)

What's the difference between a felt roof and an asphalt roof?

We Answered:

no,felt is on a roll and gos on one strip at a time, asphalt is what it says,it gos on wet and is spread out over the area of the roof, most of the time gravel is put on top of it while it is still wet, this process helps to protect the asphalt from wear and keeping the sun from heating it up to a liquid form. it also seals the roof better than felt, being put on wet it covers all the cracks and gos where felt cant
