Find Insurance Companies

Jennifer Said:

How do you find and buy insurance companies claim return merchandise ?

We Answered:

You go directly to the insurance companies, and tell them you want to bid on lots.

But be prepared, you can't pick and choose! You get IT ALL, like it or not, and you'll have to dispose of the "junk" that you can't resell.

You'll also likely need a performance and payment bond, so be sure you're bondable. That's so you don't get called to buy a lot, and then back out.

Jesus Said:

Can insurance companies find out if you've had an accident?

We Answered:

The previous answers are American, and since you've asked this in the UK section I assume your British, but the answer is pretty much the same for the UK. Yes there is a central database which was set up by the Association of British Insurers, it's run by the same people (HPI) who do the checks for existing finance arrangements on 2nd hand cars. It's also linked into the Police National Computer or PNC as it's usually referred to.

So nope it's not worth lying, they will know and may refuse your insurance which will put it up even more in future (that goes on the database too).

You can read a bit more about it here if you want....

Can car insurance companies find out if you ever had a lawsuit before? If so can they also find past medical?

We Answered:

Yes, they can, all injury claims are reported by the insurance companies to a thing called the Index Bureau. They will know all about the previous injury.

Stella Said:

What pet insurance companies pay the veterinarian directly? All I can find is ones that reimburse you.?

We Answered:

In the US, pet insurance is a type of indemnity insurance which means it works on the reimbursement model. All pet insurance companies will reimburse you after you pay the bill. The up-side of this is that you can go to any vet you want and not be limited to a selective list of clinics.

However, I have heard of some companies that will send the check directly to the vet in certain circumstances. I have my dog insured with Trupanion, and know that in some cases, they will pay the vet directly, but I think it's just for really large bills (?).
You'd have to talk to each insurer individually, but probably some of them would be willing to make special arrangements in some cases.

Daryl Said:

can car insurance companies find out if you have made any claims in the last five years?

We Answered:

Yes, they catch loads of people doing this every day as insurers register customers with claims and convictions on a central database to which all insurers have access. They may let you take out a policy initially without disclosing it, but within a week or two, you will be checked.

If you try it, they will either bill you for the difference, or if it is a serious non-disclosure, they will void your policy. Insurers treat non-disclosure as a serious matter, and they will also put you on a central database for the non-disclosure. Once any insurer sees that you have been caught obtaining a motor insurance policy by deception, no reputable insurer would be willing to take you on board. Anyone who is prepared to commit fraud when they are taking the policy out is just as likely to commit fraud when they make claims, so naturally, no insurer in their right mind would want your business.

Insurers penalise people with claims for a reason. They are an increased risk when compared to someone with no claims, so they aren't just going to let you off if you don't tell them or everyone with claims would be doing it.

Jason Said:

How can insurance companies find out if you have a pre-existing condition??

We Answered:

Insurance companys keep databases of claims experience that they upload to the Medical Information Bureau. So for example, if Anthem has claims experience on you, they upload it to the bureau and United healthcare can then access your claims experience data.

That aside, many times the information gleaned from your first or second claim makes it obvious that you have a prexisting condition. For example, when you fill your first prescription, and it is for an insulin based product - voila - you have diabetes and chances are you weren't just diagnosed. At that point, they go to your physician for additional information (onset of disease, etc), and that is where you get hit with PreEx
