Clearly at this point in his life, he's looking for you to support him. I'd rather support him out of the office, than nominally pay him a salary and drag down office morale.

If he's on straight commission, he'll either sink or swim under his own weight.

Think about it. How does it help HIM, to give him a paycheck to keep behaving irresponsibly? It doesn't - it only encourages him to keep behaving irresponsibly. If you want to help him grow up, let him take responsibility for his own paycheck.

I would NOT put on salary, anyone who behaved that way.

No matter what state you are in, your best bet is to go to an independent agency that has contracts with more than one insurance company. In addition, you need to realize that some agencies deal soley or primarily with personal insurance (for the needs of individual people and their families) while others deal soley primarily with commercial insurance (for the needs of businesses). Other agencies deal with both.

If you go to an agency that has contracts with more than one insurance company, they can look at several different plans and suggest which one would be best for your needs. An agency that specializes in personal insurance or deals with personal and commercial insurance more of less equally will give you the best service.

Health and life insurance is not a debt/obligation like credit card debt. When you sign up for a health or life insurance policy you have not created a debt/liability. You are paying for coverage and if you stop paying the coverage lapses/terminates. The consequences of not paying premiums is that any outstanding claims you've filed or may file will be declined.
