From your comments the other party appear to be trying it on. When the insurance paid out for repairs it was on a knock for knock basis and only covers the vehicles not any incidental losses. It is arguable that your relative sustained similar losses to those claimed.
I would suggest a counter claim -add everything up and go to the small claims court. I take it that they did exchange details etc and the accident was reported or did the other guy leave the scene of an accident?
I know these things can be emotionally draining but stand your ground and good luck.

The purpose of incarceration is rehabilitation. Ha Ha. The truth of the matter is that many felons are blocked from ever getting good jobs. The punishment continues. I know a guy who received 3 tickets for driving on a suspended license in a 5 year period of time. He is now a convicted felon. No rape, no beating on someone, driving a godda** car! He wasn't involved in any accidents or anything. Just driving. Now he is barred from voting, owning a firearm, and getting many good jobs.Some felons deserve a break!

You can do what you want with your car. As long as it's not for insurance fraud like you said. And obviously don't do it in a populated area (or possibly populated area) or on some else's property without permission.

However, it would probably fall under abandoning auto, litter, or dumping laws if you simply left a mess.

So if you pushed your car off. Collected everything and properly disposed of it, you should be fine.

Added: If you got a car from a junkyard. I assume you paid for it or they gave it to you. So it's "your car". I have an old broken down car that I haven't gotten rid of yet. I drive my other one to work. But the non running one is still "my car"

You can do this on public lands I guess. But make sure you pick every single piece of the car up and not damage anything of the goverments (roads, signs, ect)
