Government doesn't pay. Your policy gets transferred to another carrier. If the state insolvency fund gets called in, yes, there are limits which vary by state.

Pregnancy is NOT a disability. And if you try to claim you can't work after giving birth, you are doing a dis-service to all mothers. Also you can't collect unemployment unless you are ready, willing and able to take a job offer. You may be able to collect workman's compensation.

Assuming your mother's disability income is taxable income then, sorry, you will not be able to clam her as a dependent on your return because she has too much taxable income.

You cannot ask a person about a disability. However, there are programs that employers get tax breaks on for hiring these kinds of workers. A lot of times the agency that is trying to help the worker get placed will have already contacted the employer about the benefits available if their client is hired. Other times the employee may let the employer know bout the benefits, so that they may have more of a chance to get hired.
