OK, starting at the problem...

1. They are not denying you because of your current condition (which is under control), they are denying you because of "future claim dollars". Right now, there really isn't any long term data available on bipolar and the meds used. Insurance companies aren't nice. They are in business to make money.

2. You need to investigate and see if your state has a high risk pool, that may be your only option (but confirm the maternity coverage)

3. If you have Cobra still as an option (60 days from the date you received the letter), get on it. Quickly. You do not want to have a gap in group coverage. Ever. Even you go with the high risk pool after 18 months of Cobra, they can apply pre-ex exclusions to your bipolar treatment and meds.

Unfortunately, you will need to always try and have group coverage or live in a state that offers a high risk pool.

In terms of writing a business plan, there are plenty of software programs and books available to assist you with this and the National Alliance can also provide some resources on this.

First of all, let me be the first of what I hope but doubt will be many to compliment you for your question and your reasoning. Unfortunately, since Yahoo Answers allows members to post insulting remarks from the safety of anonymity, it's becoming more and more like the print equivalent of a Michael Savage or Glenn Beck program. But I digress....
The first mistake that most people who call this program "socialism" is that most do not know what "socialism" is. They have never read any political science texts. All they know is that the former Soviet Union called its dictatorship "socialism" and therefore what went on there must be what socialism really is.
Of course, this is not true. Saying that "white" is "black" doesn't make its so. The USSR was "state capitalist", not socialist. "Socialism" is government ownership of the means of production. The closest thing to "socialism in our society is the relationship between Haliburton and the US Defense Department under the Bush Administration, in the sense that government money basically was the sole source of its income, therefore it was the de facto owner of the company.

But wait a second, Glenn Beck will say, that's just private enterprise selling its product to the government! Right... the former CEO of Haliburton is the Vice President, and there's no relationship?

Anyway, whenever a certain group of US business interests wants to get the public incited against a government program, it throws out the word "socialism". It's been going on for more than 50 years, originally to destroy confidence in the trade union movement.

Those who would have us believe that a government sponsored medical program is bad for the country are basically made up of three groups. One is the profit based medical system, who see their income being reduced when the competition from public health offerings come into being; another is the group that has been convinced first that all the public health programs in all the other industrialized nations are no good in spite of the citizens of those countries' support; and, third, sadly, the group of closet racists who are afraid that they will have to be examined by members of minority groups they believe are inferior and would never be allowed to have medical credentials if it was not a government program.

Americans value individualism above all else. Perhaps it's because we are a nation of immigrants who have so little in common with anyone but our own extended family. A government health plan will never succeed until we go back to practicing the Golden Rule and start loving our neighbors as ourselves.

Now, watch how many people hit the "thumbs down" button. I think they should change the system so that if you want to vote "thumbs down" you have to give your identity to the person you voted against, so they can see what faction you represent. I have no doubt that most of those who frequent these pages will dislike my answer. A few will be sincere, a few will object to all the big words, and a few will be angry because they have trouble reading all this through the eyeholes in their white sheets. What I hope is that you, and others who are truly upset at the way words are twisted to a demagogue's advantage, will feel that I did a decent job of trying. Thanks again for asking the question.

Have you been working a long time in insurance? Have you been licensed for a few years at least? If yes, submit your resume to the agent looking for E&O for you - see if that will help. If the answer is no to these things, you may have a difficult time getting E&O. Have you tried a surplus lines carrier? If you have been licensed & working in an agency, you have a working relationship with some companies & they may be able to help you or send you in the right direction. Or, another route, see if you can get appointed with a direct writer.
