Business Home Insurance

Perry Said:

What kind of insurance needed for in home pet sitting business?

We Answered:

None is required by law.

YOUR policy won't protect you, if the dog destroys his own house, or yours. But the bite thing is an issue.

Because of that, the liability insurance for this type of business can be pretty expensive - as they can't underwrite by animal. Expect it to start at $2500, since you want bite liability coverage. Without bite liability, you'll be able to get it at $500 or so - IF someone is willing to write it.

In any case, you'll need to buy that coverage, through a local, independent agent (www.iiaa.org for a list by zip code).

Harry Said:

How do I promote my insurance/work from home business for free and still get a good outcome on prospects?

We Answered:

If you are interested in businesses using your services (not sure if you meant business or personal--just "insurance" is kind of vague --lot to choose from there! Agent? Adjuster? Broker? etc...), you need to make sure that they get to know your name and face. Visit often...Take them a basket of home-baked goodies along with some business cards. Send birthday and holiday cards to business owners you are trying to "woo". Gain their friendship AND their trust. You'd be surprised how much business you can get for yourself, using a little bit of old-fashioned values!
There are also some great networking groups (nationwide!) that you can join...some are free and others have a membership fee that varies --check with your local Chamber of Commerce and they should be able to point you in the right direction.
Whatever you choose to do, I wish you much business and the best of luck!
