Auto Insurance Agents

Tammy Said:

What to do when your Auto Insurance Agent calls you up and cries on the phone and threatens you, Do you change

We Answered:

Well, that's not the way I run my insurance agency. It's pretty dumb on his part, but I think it actually helps you.

Here's what probably happened. He probably quoted you a low price, including multi-line discounts for home and life insurance. Then, the underwriters figured out that he didn't actual write homeowners and life insurance on you, and the underwriters are going to raise your rates accordingly. So, he was probably telling you the truth, just not the whole truth.

The good news is, now you have this insurance agent where you want him. You have his attention. You'd be crazy to move your insurance now. Every time you call him, he has to jump through hoops, or he thinks you're going to report him. Leave your insurance there.

Now, this is going to sound like and insurance salesman. It wouldn't hurt you to have your home and your life insurance at the same company. In fact, it's smarter. I would have him quote both of them. If the rates sound reasonable, then do it. It's a lot better having an agent thats scared of you than having some 800-LIZARD line to call when you have a problem.

Mathew Said:

auto insurance agents in california please. Re: ticket and trial by declaration lost case?

We Answered:

first of all, no insurance company can increase your rate f/ a violation until the renewal of your policy, when they run your mvr. and actually, they typically run it a couple months earlier so if the violation was in the time between your renewal and when they ran the report, your clear f/ another 6-12 months.
however, points on your license and points on your insurance are 2 different things. even if u are able to go to traffic school to have the points removed from your license, you will still be charged for a violation on your insurance. traffic school does not make the violation go away.

Glen Said:

Do all Auto Insurance agents/brokers charge broker's fee? And how much is it?

We Answered:

I didn't know anybody charged broker fees until I read this. I've had three different auto/homeowner's insurance brokers in the past 10 years and none of them has ever charged me a fee.

Frances Said:

Question for auto insurance agents/assistants (especially State Farm)-?

We Answered:

Unfortunately, I get this question all the time because agents don't bother to explain to their customers how the claims process works. If you called your agent to report the accident, you filed a claim with your insurance company. Even though you canceled it later, the claim was still filed.

If your insurance company is recovering the money from the other party (subrogation), it is still a claim on YOUR policy. Your insurance company cannot collect money from the other insurance company (subrogation) unless they pay out funds to fix your car. If you had contacted the other driver's insurance company directly to work with them, there would be no claim on your policy.

Leslie Said:

are all allstate auto insurance agents the same?

We Answered:

Agents do not set the rates, the company does. If you go to a different Allstate agent, he will be using the same rate book. To deal with him, you will have to sign a broker letter of intent so he can take over your account with permission from Allstate, but, unless his office is closer to you, your existing agent gives you poor service, or you know him and want to deal with him, changing may not be worth it. When you get your renewal, check with a broker who deals with some other companies. Either he will find you a better rate, or you will find you are not so bad off after all, and the quotes are at no charge.
