Agency Home Insurance

Jerry Said:

Good insurance agency in the Katy, Tx area for help in finding a home owners ins. that doesn't suck?

We Answered:

Texas homeowners insurance policies generally suck. Most companies write a very limited form, except for State Farm, which writes a slightly less limited form, and charges you through the nose. Me, I took the State Farm policy.

They all base rates on your credit score, and if you currently have unrepaired damage or a pit bull or trampoline, good luck finding ANYONE to take you.

Having said that, insuranceman here on YA has an agency North Houston, send him an email. Or you can check with www.usi.biz, they do homeowners, they're near I10 and the beltway.

Marie Said:

how to file a bad faith lawsuit against homeowners insurance agency?

We Answered:

You hire a lawyer.

You're not going to like this, but there are a WIDE range of reasons why water damage wouldn't be covered, legitimately, in your house - starting with the standard flood exclusion. Additionally, mold remediation ALSO isn't covered on a homeowners policy.

If they denied your claim, because there was no coverage, you do NOT have a bad faith claim - you have a lack of coverage. Any attorney will give you a free consult, and if they won't take your case on a no win, no fee basis, it's because you don't have a case.

I am growing my insurance agency. Any sugguestions on how to avoid the time consuming "busywork"?

We Answered:

For 3% off your commission rate, Travelers has a "service center" where they will answer your phone like it's your agency, and do all the quoting & servicing of your Travelers accounts.

Besides that, you've got to hire your clerical help, and train them in how to do stuff . . .and, of course, get them licensed. That's what CSR's are all about.

Can there be an agency that offers real estate sales, home loans & insurance all in one office?

We Answered:

Many of your larger real estate offices offer all services. Why would you want to deal with a real estate office that offers all these services when you might be better served by a smaller company that isn't really looking rip people off. Most real estate mortgage companies won't deal with people that have credit scores under 650 and sometimes their insurance companies premiums are just outrageous. Prudential Fox Roach is one such company. Not only do they have a mortgage company but also a title company, insurance services, appraisal services, home inspection, etc. It is bad enough that realtors try to be not only a real estate sales person but a loan officer too. Are you willing to have a company not only make commission off of you once but twice and any other fees that they charge you at the closing table?
