When I was 17 and just started driving, Geico offered me the best rate at the time. Then again, this will all change depending on what car you have, your state, etc. A good idea would be something where you could be put under your parents insurance for the time being, I found that helped keep some of the costs down. One other suggestion, if you have military in the family, is USAA. They are very affordable, but again, you have to have a family member in the military, or you in the military yourself.

If you live in Japan, it's a MUST to join National Health Insurance, or health insurance of your employer.

And there is nothing which can replace NHI. There are some insurances. But they are only supplement of NHI.

It depends on what you consider affordable. I have clients who think their $1000 per month policy is affordable because they have health conditions and others who complain that they have to pay $100.

Most major health insurance companies are like automobile manufacturers. They both offer a variety of product, from the basic low end model all the way up to the model that's fully loaded with all the options. With health insurance you get what you pay for so if you look for the lowest premium you'll get the basic plan, which may or may not have the coverage you want.

Stay away from the companies that advertise "group" plans for the self employed. This is just a marketing gimmick and their plans are hospital certificates, not major medical.

If you have low income you may qualify for Medicaid. Search out your states' Medicaid website for more information. Otherwise, you should visit a local agent that works with all the major companies. The agent can find the best plan for your situation and budget and can explain what you get and, more importantly, what you don't get with any plan. There is no extra charge using an agent.

A really good site is Pet Insurance Review (petinsurancereview.com) who is a third party site that has reviews and ratings of all the top companies.

Once you have found a few that you like, I'd suggest going to all their sites and getting free quotes to see about how much it will cost you.

Some companies offer routine coverage as an add-on which covers shots and checkups, personally I would recommend against that because you end up paying more through the "middle man" than if you were to pay for those things yourself. The company charges you extra to offer routine coverage so they make profit or else it wouldn't make sense for them to offer it.

Of course you should see for yourself what you like, but my recommendation is Trupanion which is what I have for my dog. I chose them because they don't have any claim limits or annual limits. You should watch out for limits because some companies offer great prices but then they only cover very low limited claims, so if you had any big vet bills then you have to worry about it fitting within the limits.
I also like Trupanion because you can pick your deductible and they cover 90% of the entire bill. Good luck with your shopping!

Oh I don't know about that! we have Anthem BC/BS and we don't have a problem with it at all. For instance, my Oct, 07, neck fusion, $92,000, they paid $17,000 + and we paid our deductible plus about 600 out of pocket. Then with my Blood clot in my lung last year, the bill was around 37,000 for 3 1/2 days in the hosp. w various tests for clots, CT w the IV, ins paid around $8,000 contracted, we paid about 380. We have the PPO plus, as I have numerous conditions. $30.00 office copay, after you reach your yearly deductible, you're more or less home free. Don't knock it til you have dealt with it. We used to have several others, I'd rather have this. We've had a few problems with the 90-day by mail pharmacy but that end had nothing to do with the insurance. It was the pharmacy not understanding what the Dr. my Endocrinologist wrote out. We got it,rather the nurse at her office got it straight.
