Motorcycle Insurance Compare

Curtis Said:

Is motorcycle insurance normally cheaper than car insurance?

We Answered:

Not usually.I don't know where Josh got his insurance but sport bike insurance is usually off the hook for novice riders.I have a lot of experience and a really good record and I pay $53.00/month

Manuel Said:

what are the motorcycle insurance fees where you live, compared with car insurance?

We Answered:

In America, and specifically in Texas, the insurance on a 600cc supersport bike for me is half the cost of the motorcycle per year. A Yamaha R6 costs about $9,000. Full coverage is $4,500 per year.

The minimum insurance required by law is liability only, which means if you hit someone or cause damage in an accident, your insurance will pay for all of the damage that you caused to others, but your own motorcycle and health costs will not be paid. To get this insurance, it is $430 a year. The reason for this is that it is not hard to get a driver's license in America. Therefore, a lot of kids see people on motorcycles, fall in love, and go purchase the highest-performance bike that a company makes as a first bike. Because of this, the average lifetime of a supersport motorcycle once it leaves the dealership is 8 months.

I pay $1,400 a year, on the other hand, for my car, a Honda Accord.

By the way, most of my family lives in Haifa and Tsvat!

Dana Said:

What motorcycle size to buy?

We Answered:

See if you can get something around 650 cc. You are a very light person, so that should have more than enough zip. Get one low enough that you can balance it comfortably flat footed, vs having to be on the balls of your feet. Gat a copy of "Proficient Motorcycling" by Hough. Might save you a spill or two. If you can afford it, get a ventilated kevlar jacket as well as a decent helmet.

Rose Said:

Does motorcycle insurance cheaper the older the bike compared to a new one?

We Answered:

I guess that would depend upon what company you go with. I know I have our race bikes insured and my oldest son who doesn't race as much anymore has a 2 year old crf250r. The insurance is less on his bike than his brothers new race bikes with all the added extras as we usually have to state how much the bikes would be worth for replacement cost.

Claude Said:

is motorcycle insurance usually more costly than auto insurance? whats usually the median cost?

We Answered:

Your insurance on your first bike will probably be more than your car insurance was. You will save some money if that bike a.) is not a sportbike, b.) has a small-ish motor (less than 1000cc), c.) is used and fairly cheap. Taking the MSF course will also keep your payments down.

As you gain a couple years experience, prove to be a competent rider (no tickets or insurance claims) and get a car again (so you can list your bike as a "recreational vehicle" on your insurance) your rates will go down and could be cheaper than your car.

EDIT: Bear in mind that the people throwing out numbers below are NOT new riders. They are experienced riders with more than one vehicle. Go to Progressive.com or somewhere are run a quote, you'll see that you'll be paying much more than what they are.
