Motor Insurance Cheap

Alfred Said:

How does a motor swap work the insurance company?

We Answered:

The best advice I can give you is not to buy a twenty year old Volkswagen. Insurance rates are usually determined by the vehicle ID number (VIN), which is unchanged regardless of the engine swap. They will charge you based on the original motor installed by the manufacturer.

Ray Said:

what is the offence for misrepresenting a motor insurance company with wrong age?

We Answered:

Insurance fraud if caught by the police. If you're in an accident, they won't cover it or pay for any damages. You lied about a material element of the insurance, as a result, they have a contract which is voidable at will.

Can you trick car insurance companies?

We Answered:

When you apply for insurance you have to provide the VIN number for the vehicle. They will look that up and will tell them exactly what specs your car had when it was manufactured. If you modify the car afterwards and do not notify them you will be voiding your insurance.

What happens when you make a claim or are in an accident, is that they will send an adjustor to examine the vehicle. They will instantly discover that your vehicle does not match the description on file, and therefore they will drop you. You will have paid insurance money for nothing, because they won't pay out, and no court will force them to because you lied on your application.

Further, a note will be made on your file and it will be extremely hard for you to get insurance in the future for any vehicle - not just this one.

Its cheaper and better in the long run to just suck it up and pay the insurance for the exact car you drive.

I hope that helps.

Have you been mislead by your motor insurance company?

We Answered:

As an insurance broker dealing with lots of companies this causes us a lot of problems. Many insurance companies will only provide proof of their maximum scale - as you say with RAC this is 5, with Royal & Sun Alliance it is 4.

As holding broker we can persuade insurers to confirm correct details when we transfer policies at renewal and we have records so we can prove previous entitlement (all of which is unavailable to the general customer).

Ideally insurers should display the actual number of years irrespective of the no claims bonus scale that they use - regrettably this is not the case.

(The highest scale we have is Fortis who give discounts up to 9 years).
