If you are planning on getting a new car/bike, it's best to keep that insurance live. If you are giving up this mode of transport, you should cancel your insurance.

While there are definitely places online who are black hat, there are a few who are legit. For auto insurance, I would recommend progressive or netquote, as they offer comparisons for multiple carriers.

What's great about quoting services is that a typical car insurance form is over 100 questions. If you got to individual companies to compare a few quotes, you'll have to fill out those 100 questions several times. If you go to places like progressive or nq, you only have to answer those questions once and you get several quotes to compare pricing.
