Too many big pharma and insurance companies have made too many big donations to politicians, for one thing. If their profits slow down, the donations might, too.

Too many Americans still buy into the myth of the rugged individualist who doesn't need any help from anybody, and are too ashamed to talk about it when things don't actually work out that way.

Americans are generally ignorant of how things work in other countries, and of the fact that there isn't a single European country whose citizens would vote to abolish their national health services in favor of the for-profit private system we have.
