Compare Horse Insurance

Karl Said:

For those of you who have insurance on your horse...?

We Answered:

It's definitely worth it. You can get medical insurance ($250 a year and the limit is $7,000). I'm applying for that right now.

Hmm...I think it's http://www.equineinsurancecenter.com/maj… I'm applying for the major medical, because I don't think I'm going to need mortality. When I was horse shopping I almost bought a 16 yr old TB and they said they would cover it.

Check into Great American too (I think that's what it's called...)

The vet was ok, he said Luna will be good as new with a few days off and hock injections. I can start jumping her sometime in the next week, wich is AWESOME. I saved a lot of money by going to him, and I only spent $16 in gas money :D The trip was kinda bad, she was so nervous that she soaked ALL the shavings in the trailer.

Yeah, it was so bad..lol She was great once she was at the vet and home..until I put her in the stall. After an hour her stall had a HUGE puddle. She's so claustrophobic, more than other horses.

How Much A Month Do You Spend On Your Horse?

We Answered:

My horse doesn't really need much feed - she keeps her condition really well just grazing in her paddock which is great for my back pocket! I just feed a little bit of pony nuts and chaff after she is worked, to restore her electrolytes and everything. So that only costs me about AU$30/month! =)

There's also the farrier who comes to trim her feet (she is not shod), which costs me about AU$30 every 6-8weeks

How does the Strongid Daily Wormer compare to a every other month rotational deworming schedule?

We Answered:

I have all my guys on the daily wormer, and have had for the past 14 years.

The advantages it has are 1) you are sure that the horse gets the full dose.
2) the chemical is never absorbed by the horse, so the wormer has no adverse affects that the paste wormers do. The pastes can be hard on some horses.
3) When you paste, you clear the worms and eggs in half a day, and as soon as the horse gets nose to ground, they start picking up new eggs, and those eggs hatch and grow, and shed until the next worming day. When you use a paste wormer, it doesn't stay in the system for the intervening time. By not allowing the worms to breed and grow, they don't pull down the horse, and they don't infect the ground they are on any more than it already is.
4) better utilization of feed, so less is needed. No sharing with those worms.
5) It has been noted that horses that are sensitive to sounds, or don't like to be touched or groomed have resolution of these problems. Nobody knows why, but it has been documented several places.

I use the Smart Pak service and the colic insurance through them. They send paste wormer for bots in the fall, and paste for tapes in the spring in addition to the daily pellets.

Lumineers? Are they any good?

We Answered:

Well Lumineers look more natural, that is for sure, and the advantage is that they don't grind your teeth, they are pricey though, about a 1,000 per tooth, but you sound like a good candidate, if you aren't happy with your smile and can afford it, go for it! why not? Lumineers are better than veneers, you need a consult though, they will even show them to you, they usually have samples and shades, good luck!

Comes down to 2 cars! Which one?

We Answered:

From a logical standpoint, i'd say the Acura.

It's cheaper, and it's still fun to drive. While it doesn't have all the buttons the G35 has, it still has many options that your going to use every day, not to metion its FWD for your snowy roads- and the Integra is actually ALOT easier to steal than the RSX.

The G35 has less MPG, is 3x more expensive, and it'll lose value quite quickly because it is new. If something were to happen to it, your going to be losing big bucks- especially since its a lux. car.

Both are wonderful cars, no doubt. it's just a personal choice on whether you want to make a more cost efficient buy, or a more fun buy.
