Well, auto registration is on the high side, much higher that Texas, income tax is average, insurance is on th high side too, lots of illegals (uninsured) affects the rates. Jobs are really hard to come by unless you have a really specific skill for the area, like Phoenix, has a LOT of good hospitals, so a doctor or registered nurse would do well there, in Yuma, there are two military bases and a lot of agricultural jobs, compared to the rest of the country (except Appalachia), Arizona's economy is in the crapper, and it would be very difficult to prosper there. * Wrong, there is a law requirement that every car must be insured. You can get it from your own insurance company or get a basic one offered by an group of insurance companies workking as a cooperative formed by the government.

* Not the case, every car on the streets has to be insured. That is the law.

* There are mainland insurance companies like GEICO operating in PR.

* I have never purchase a homeowners insurance at the states to be able to compare. I would say it is reasonable, but really do not have the data.
* $1,000 a month just for homeowners insurances? !!! That is wayyyyyyy more than here. Required homeowners insurance in PR is ussually paid as part of the monthly mortgage payment and it is less than $100. That covers for water, fire, and wind related damages. You may take an additional insurance for flood.

i dont' have homeowners insurance but i do know that my landlord only charges me enuff rent to cover hers and i live in louisiana...it's $250

So my short answer is, go buy your local agent lunch, and sit down with him and ask about it. Be prepared to spend several hours.
